Felix showing off his pride & joy.

The Garden Gates’ art director Felix Miralda says his favorite part was working with the photographer Marc Roman Bravo on the color palette to run with. A metallic copper color was what they focused on, and it is very visible on the various elements that flow through the catalog. When you flip through the pages the consistency is apparent. Marc Roman Bravo’s favorite part was working with Beth Harris (co-owner of The Garden Gates) on creating the product displays for him to shoot. The Garden Gates’ Marketing Director Alyse Mouledoux says her favorite part was both doing the research for the copy and just the process of creation, from the initial brainstorming sessions all the way through to opening it up from the box when it was hot off the presses. General Manager Sara Draper had the complex role of proofing it throughout the process, something we are all grateful for. She did a great job staying on top of all the revisions and changes.

The Products

The cover features the gold Fleur de Lis plaque by India Stewart, one of the many local New Orleans artists we feature here at The Garden Gates. Her work, mostly inspired by the nature and character of South Louisiana and the plants, birds, fish and other creatures that crawl around her garden. She loves it so much that she wants to share it with everyone through her art. Unique and beautiful she has items that are perfect for everyone. One of my favorites is the Nativity Scene Pin. It comes in both Silver Plate or Gold, and is a wonderful and illustrative expression of the nativity scene in all its glory.

I have to say that my sweet tooth has gotten the best of me and my favorite part of the catalog has to be the Sweet Treats section. Peppermint Bark makes an appearance, which is dark chocolate with natural peppermint oil and layered white chocolate on top of it. But wait! There’s more! Crushed peppermint candy sprinkled on top of it is the coup de grace on an already irresistible treat. You turn the page and you find Nam’s Bits, a bite sized chocolate cookie. Not in the catalog but now in stock is the Funkychunky Popcorn. A huge hit here in the office they area decadent mix of dark, milk, and white chocolates covering buttery caramel popcorn and almonds, pecans, and cashews. Incredible!

Other things featured are Himalayan candles, Nouvelle candles, Bellissima Jewelry, woodcut wreaths, Barr-Co., and Belle Notte Linens. If you haven’t received the catalog through the mail stop by The Garden Gates at 2918 Metairie Road, Metairie and pick one up and take a look around the store and garden center! Or you can always shop online 24 hours a day, seven days a week at our website TheGardenGates.com.

I was just hanging out at The Garden Gates checking out some of the really neat and hip new Ornaments and Decorations they just put out on their showroom. Really cool and unique items to feature in your home or give as gifts for the 2011 Holiday Season. Each and every item they have is the start of a great tradition for you and your family.

Wine Holders Christmas GiftsWe all got a kick out of the Santa Pants Wine Holders which is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a common problem, you buy some wine as a gift but don’t want to just show up with it and present it as is. You have Wine Flowers, but sometimes you want to really want to entertain. With the Santa Pants you have a way to do this and bring holiday cheer at the same time. The real cool thing is although it is designed for wine bottles, you can also fill it with non alcoholic beverages, candy, toys and other gifts.

One of the most interesting holiday decorations they have is the Mercury Glass Virgin Mary figurine by Creative Co-op. Mercury Glass is a style of silvered glass, double blown and and walled that has been popular from the mid 1800s to around 1930. New techniques have removed the mercury and silver but have kept the cool vintage look and feel. If you love the Mercury Glass look there is also sets of 12 mercury glass ornaments that come in an adorable sachet. Pink and Silver these look gorgeous on a small tree.

Speaking of mini ornaments The Garden Gates carry One Hundred 80 Degrees adorable collection of small scale antique style glass ornaments. They come in sets of six or in 25. While two feature various snowmen, one features the holiday favorite nutcrackers and there is one that features a grab bag of Santa in a stocking, two bells, a wreath, a mitten, a christmas pickle, and a snowman. The set of 25 includes cookies, Santas, stockings, angels, and more.

In New Orleans and Metairie we don’t just decorate the tree, we go all out. A fine example of spreading holiday cheer is the Champagne Wood Rose Kissing Ball. Perfect to adorn a table for any holiday party, this candle holder is champagne colored, dusted with glitter and is sure to bring holiday cheer to everyone that enters its glow.

A great way to let the neighborhood know your family is celebrating Christmas is with one of The Garden Gate’s many selections of wreaths. The traditional way to mark the advent season has begun, a wreath is a beautiful decoration adorning many of the finest homes in Metairie and New Orleans. The Garden Gates has many wreaths, including the All Green Magnolia Wreath and the Fresh Boxwood Round Wreath. The Moss Green Wood Curl and Pine Cones wreaths is beautiful and is gently dusted with bronze glitter. For all the crafters that would like to grow their own wreaths there is the Coco Moss Wreath which is filled with dense coconut fibers that provides the perfect amount of moisture.

A huge part of the New Orleans holiday season is entertaining your friends and family. When people come and visit during your parties and open houses you have the beatiful tree, the wreaths, the candles, what’s next? Don’t forget the small details like your  Michel Designs Holiday Cheer Soaps. Hey Lisa! It’s Claire, your favorite niece!

Cute story…

I was chillin’ at The Garden Gate taking pics of flowers & stuff , & Dad comes staggering in, lost, clutching a list in his hand.

I knew what Mom had put on that list–inside stuff. So I went to help him.

I took him room to room & he tripped out when he saw all the cool stuff we have at home that he’s been taking for granted.

So he got the list & I talked him into buying those pj’s I told you about–remember? And yeah, I’m totally snagging them after Mom wears em once.

I miss you, aunt Lisa! I love you! Come home soon! Bye.
