One of our favorite things in the store right now isn’t really a specific product, but the India Stewart display itself. Refreshed by our merchandiser and display coordinator Emily it breaths new life into an already exciting line of jewelry and home decor. I asked Emily about her influences and if she had a background in display design. She said she has always been interested in art but her formal training in architecture really was the inspiration in the display. Combined with the landscape architectural influence of The Garden Gates she created a pastoral and rolling environment for India Stewart’s designs to live and breath.
India Stewart loves to feature the things that inspire her, be it the creatures of her garden or the southern Louisiana nature that she has grown up around. This inspired Emily into creating sprawling landscapes alive with ladybugs, flamingos, dragonflies and even the Banana Leaf earrings. And of course this wouldn’t be New Orleans without an assortment of Fleur de Lis designs.
Some of the other unique items featured in the display are also featured on TheGardenGates.com, for example the Gold Leaf Painted Fleur de Lis Plaque (also featured on the cover of our 2011 Holiday Gift Guide). This cool plaque is hand painted so no two are exactly alike. Lots of earrings are featured, including earrings like the Snow Angel, Ladybugs, and the Calla Lily.
If you’ve been searching for casual, elegant summer 2011 trends, you may have noticed a pattern of cuts that accentuate curves as well as drapey, flowy looks and light summery fabrics. This minimalist classic look is stylish, smart and comfortable and features neutral tones along with clean, white palettes. This chic yet laid-back look, often reminiscent of the silky, simple pajama style, can be paired with alluring summer jewelry to add interest to an outfit.
Pairing this look with striking summer jewelry is a great conversation starter for those outdoor seasonal parties. This printed Flat Link Bib Necklace, courtesy of Bellissima, blends beautifully with this white, billowy CP Shades blouse and Laurie B. wrap.
Pretty in Pink, Ivory or Print
Printed accessories, such as the Flat Link Bib Necklace, Buckle Wrap Bracelet and Bangles in Gator (featured above) add appeal and personality to an outfit. Other neutral colors such as champagne, ivory bronze and even light seashell pink capture the calming spirit of summer 2011 trends and are the perfect hues for this summer’s jewelry selection.
Since these neutral colors are timeless, they will not only carry you through the summer 2011 trends, they’ll be fashionable season after season Judging by the multitude of oversized jewelry trends, cuff bracelets and bold earrings on the runway in the previous season, it’s safe to presume that this style of summer jewelry may have staying power.
Summery, Organic Details
Punch of your wardrobe with a summer 2011 trend that never seems to go out of style: statement earrings with hair pulled into a clean, low bun. These Bellissima Light Horn Earrings feature a labyrinthine organic detail, are unique and eye-catching and are the perfect summer accessory.
Pair these earrings with a colorful, delicate top; a few hot hues we’ve seen in summer 2011 trends are orange, coral, daffodil and classic blue. This season’s summer jewelry channels natural elements such as vines, flowers and leaves, as in these Oval Drop Earrings with highly detailed bead clusters or the Bouquet Cuff, both in Light Horn:
Bellissima features affordable, chic accessories that are made of high-quality Italian Rhodoid plastic resin, so they’re durable and make ideal summer jewelry. Since these pieces capture that classic, antique look with earthy details and edgy elements, they aren’t just a summer 2011 trend; Bellissima pieces can be worn year after year.
Looking to bring vogue chic elements into the home? With the right combination of elegant French decor and outdoor folding tables, you can bring the ambiance of a Parisian rendezvous right to your home.
Create an airy, Parisian-style sanctuary to bring hints of intrigue, romance and European beauty into any space. Whether you want to create a unique area indoors or a breezy, open space outdoors, bistro tables combined with French decor, color and a certain stylistic flair can create a shabby chic mood.
Bistro tables and chairs are Parisian classics and have been used since the late 19th century. Modern versions are crafted after the classic bistro furniture and are comfortable and quaint.
For the ideal French cafe feel, set up small, round outdoor folding tables. White furniture helps set the French farmhouse style tone and a simple design gives the setup a timeless look. Match textured or scrolling print napkins and linens with elegant silver cutlery for that special chic twist.
Antiqued Decor and Clean White Lines
Set off the clean white lines in bistro tables with French decor that features golden angelic touches, fleur de lis, and scrolling botanics; these are popular motifs that create a Parisian air. Brilliant jewel colors such as aqua, royal blue or burgundy can pair well with the crisp, antiqued white you often find in classic country French style homes. Include small candles and fresh flowers in a decorative vase on the bistro table for a welcoming atmosphere.
Including a few gilded French decor details atop your bistro table, such as gold tassels or ribbons, can blend beautifully with a dark wood floor. Golden, lustrous silks combined with luxurious linens enhance an upscale space and create an old-world look. Add a plush cushion with fine details to an intricately crafted bistro chair.
Bring the Boudoir to the Bistro Table
Most French decor has elements of the decadent boudoir vanity table. Create a sense of glamour to outdoor folding tables by bring remnants from the boudoir out in the open. Silk, mirrors and puffy ruffles, along with vintage accessories, perfume bottles and even scented ceramics will create a warm and sensual yet welcoming atmosphere.
To really capture that French feeling, take a luxurious bath with a classic Parisian scented soap before company arrives.
The Garden Gates having its roots as a landscape company, people would think of the winter as a slower time of year….
The idea of Christmas Trees Delivered Free program is to not only provide the New Orleans area with the highest quality trees avaliable, it is to keep the talented landscape employees busy.
Chad and Beth Harris figured out by delivering the trees we may even have to hire more people! Just another reason to shop at The Garden Gates.
Ellen, Kami & Claudia conquer The Garden Gate! Even little Elise & Kate know what they want (bunnies & hats) & where to get it. It’s so much fun @ The Garden Gate!

Hey Lisa! It’s Claire, your favorite niece!
Cute story…
I was chillin’ at The Garden Gate taking pics of flowers & stuff , & Dad comes staggering in, lost, clutching a list in his hand.
I knew what Mom had put on that list–inside stuff. So I went to help him.
I took him room to room & he tripped out when he saw all the cool stuff we have at home that he’s been taking for granted.
So he got the list & I talked him into buying those pj’s I told you about–remember? And yeah, I’m totally snagging them after Mom wears em once.
I miss you, aunt Lisa! I love you! Come home soon! Bye.
